Zimbabwean Professor Rejects KNUST Lectureship Role Due To Salary Disparities

A senior Zimbabwean lecturer known as Dr. Matthew Chiwaridzo has declined an opportunity offered to be a lecturer at the Department of Physiotherapy and Sports Sciences, College of Health science in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The lecturer made this decision on the basis of salary differences.
In a response letter to the department and college, he noted that the basic salary for a senior lecturer at KNUST is 55104.05 Ghana cedis per annum (USD 760.00 per month) which is not comparable to a basic salary of (ZWL 1293708.00 per annum):USD 1.283 per month at the University of Zimbabwe.

He also noted that he is currently in the senior lecturer grade (ZWL 1561248.00 per annum:USD 1.500 per month at the University of Zimbabwe by virtue of he having a Doctorate degree specializing in Physiotherapy, 35 Publications, 2 awarded grant projects and 7 years of satisfactory teaching, industrialization, innovation and research experience.

Dr. Matthew made known that his declination is based only on economic reasons and that he wants to explore other opportunities.
