A National Organiser hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is warning of consequences should the Minister of Communications dare block any sim card.

Today is the deadline of the sim card reregistration exercise which began 9 months ago.

The sim card registration exercise has been challenged by the inability of some Ghanaians to acquire the Ghana card which is the only required identity card for the registration.

This means that a large number of Ghanaians are on the brink of losing their sim cards because they don’t have the Ghana card to register them.

Thousands of Ghanaians who have the Ghana cards are also struggling to register due to mistakes on their ID cards.

Others who have registered for the card for years and months are still yet to receive the cards. According to the NCA, there are over 2 million cards not picked by their owners.

Media reports have shown that some of these victims are actually making strides to take their cards but can’t found them.

Asked in a recent interview if the ministry will extend the deadline for the registration exercise, the minister Ursula Owusu refused to divulge any information concerning an extension.

The minister is however addressing a government press conference on the situation at noon today.

Meanwhile, Henry Osei Akoto, the former 2020 parliamentary candidate for the NDC in Oforikrom and a National Organiser Hopeful of the party is warning the minister against blocking sim cards.

In a tweet yesterday, Henry Osei Akoto said the move will destabilize the country and its already ailing economy.

In another tweet, the outspoken NDC stalwart warned that he will lead a picketing at the office of the National Communication should any sim card be blocked.

“We will all sleep at the NCA if Ursula Owusu dares block our sim! If she wants to add chaos to their already tattered economy, we will help her make it grand. We will all share the NCA and Ministry of Communication offices until our sims are unblocked. Ghana is not for anyone” Henry Osei Akoto wrote in a tweet.
