The General Secretary elect of the University of Ghana chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo has reacted to a court order compelling teachers to return to the classroom.
The injunction which was filed by the National Labour Commission (NLC) prayed the court to compel lecturers to go back to the lecture halls.
The court after hearing the matter upheld the injunction in a writ compelling lecturers to call of the strike which is about a week old.
Following the ruling, UTAG in a statement directed member institutions to continue the strike as planned.
Yesterday, the group filed a lawsuit praying the courts to set aside the previous ruling upholding the NLC injunction.
Responding to the ruling in an interview with UTV, Prof Ransford Gyampo said they are ready for the consequences of defying the court order to call off the strike.
The renowned professor said the government can sack all university lecturers if they so wish and employ new ones.
He added that they the lecturers are even ready to be jailed.
It is clear that UTAG is not backing down until government meets their requirements.
