The rate at which suicide cases are rising at a horse’s speed is worrying. The Ashanti region recorded the highest number of suicide-related deaths in 202 according to the Ashanti regional coordinator of mental health, Faustina Nuako.
The cases of suicide across the country are showing no sign of decline with the Ashanti region taking the lead in the numbers. The total number of suicide cases recorded across the country in 2021 are 417. The Ashanti region has the majority of 61 representing 14.63% of the total number of cases
The latest development is even more disturbing and gives a cause for concern given the fact that a chunk of these suicide cases are involving young people who have had to end their lives abruptly for reasons very little could be known about.
Speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma, the Ashanti regional coordinator of mental health, Faustina Nuako said: “first half of the year 2021 has witnessed high records of attempted suicide cases across the country with the total of 417 recorded”.
She continued, saying that, “the mental health outfit of the Ghana Health Service is embarking on a massive campaign to psych people to confide in relatives and friends in times of distress and depression.”
