The goal was to promote sugarcane education and sustainable practices across the country.

It now organizes and finances a variety of educational programs aimed at improving the industry and the communities in which it operates. SIFTE also provides subsidies to students and school structures.

Several independent trustees fund and run the non-profit organization, which works to improve the sugarcane industry and the country as a whole.

Students pursuing degrees in Agriculture, Engineering, or Sciences are eligible for the SITFE bursary.

SITFE will only accept candidates from KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga for the academic year 2022.

They can attend any public institution, university of technology, or one of South Africa’s two agricultural colleges:

  • Owen Sithole College of Agriculture
  • Cedara College of Agriculture

The amount of the bursary will be determined on an individual basis. The selection process will be based on matriculation and the most recent academic scores.

In addition, there is an interview phase in which students must display proper communication skills. The list of bursars will be released by the organization no later than February 28, 2022.

Eligibility Criteria

SITFE has established some eligibility criteria for this bursary program. Applicants must meet all of the conditions in order to be considered for funding.

Failure to do so will result in your application being rejected. As a result, always double-check the criteria before submitting an application.

The following are the eligibility criteria for the Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education (SITFE) Bursary 2022:

  • Must reside within the sugarcane growing provinces, which are KwaZulu-Natal or Mpumalanga
  • Must have registered themselves for a qualification in the field of agriculture, science, or engineering. If not, they must be children of sugarcane farm workers (such candidates can be in any field of study).
  • Must belong to the “Missing Middle” group with a household income between R 350,000 and R 600,000
  • The family income must come from the sugarcane growing areas and not anywhere else

Even if all of the prerequisites are met, financing is not guaranteed. Applicants in their first year of study are given priority. Academically outstanding students will be given priority over others.
