About NSFAS Funding 2022

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government agency controlled by the National Student Financial Aid Act that allows any student to apply for a loan or bursary.

The major goal is to transform NSFAS into an efficient source of financial aid to students from low-income families, allowing them to pursue higher education and training.

NSFAS Application for 2022

The NSFAS bursary helps students who want to further their education by covering the costs of studying for certain qualifications at any South African public university or college.

For deserving students, this helps to alleviate the burden of student debt. In order to receive funding to assist with their tuition charge and cost of study, eligible students must complete the NSFAS online application via the online application form portal.

The NSFAS Application 2022 offers the following bursary programs:

  1. Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is in charge of vocational and continuing education and training assessment processes and systems. The TVET bursary covers the full cost of college fees as listed in the current academic year’s program costs, as well as travel and lodging expenses.
  2. The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a program that assists qualified university students in completing a teaching degree. Bursary awardees must subsequently teach in public schools for the same amount of time as the bursary they earned. Please keep in mind that bursary recipients have no say in the school they are assigned to. The bursary will cover the majority of the recipient’s study-related expenses. This could cover tuition, registration fees, room and board (including meals), a book allowance and learning materials allowance, and, if possible, a small monthly living expense allowance. There are two sorts of qualifications that can be funded:
    • Undergraduate studies or a 4-year Bachelor of Education degree (B Ed), specializing in Foundation Phase (Grade R – 3), Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 – 6), Senior Phase (Grade 7 – 9) and FET Phase (Grade 10-12).
    • Graduate studies or One-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Combined postgraduate qualifications are also acceptable such as combine specialization in the Foundation Phase (Grade R – 3) and Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 – 6), or the Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase, or the Senior Phase (Grade 7 – 9) and FET Phase (Grade 10 –12).
  3. Social Work Bursaries is a program run by the Department of Social Development that aims to provide financial help to qualifying students pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work degree. Young between the ages of 18 and 35 are given priority, in line with the government’s goals of youth active engagement in socioeconomic activities. The cost of registration, tuition, book allowance, housing allowance, food, and stipends for practical work experience as defined by the institution are covered by the social worker bursary.
  4. Disability Bursary Programme Applicants with disabilities who require financial assistance and have a solid academic record are eligible for financial aid. As needed papers with the application form, students who are eligible for this bursary must present proof of impairment and a quotation for assistive devices. An assistive equipment will be given to the student disability unit at the university or TVET college where the applicant will be studying through the applicant’s arrangement. This is to improve the applicant’s quality of life and reduce the costs of dependency and care, as well as to increase the applicant’s prospects for work and economic engagement, which is assisted by a higher education certification. NSFAS bursary recipients must work in South Africa for a set period of time following graduation. If bursary holders are unable to find work in South Africa within three months after completing their education, they must request to NSFAS in writing for a fair exit clause/buy-out provision to be considered.
