The National Democratic Congress has learnt and amplified the ideals of Dr Kwame Nkrumah in developing Ghana. This is according to the 2020 vice presidential candidate of the party, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

She made the statement in a speech delivered at the 56th commemoration of the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah by the Socialist Movement Ghana.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang said the party “has not been afraid to learn best practices as demonstrated by Nkrumah and amplify them while bringing our own creativity to this era.”

“We have overseen the longest period of democratic stability, strong and resilient financial institutions, the biggest investment in education including establishing the highest number of primary, secondary schools, technical universities and public universities.
We also made the highest share of GDP contribution to education,” the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast continued.

On health care, she said her party has undertaken “the most impressive investment in health delivery including Ghana’s only quaternary hospital, the UGMC. As well, we oversaw similar investments in the Ridge Hospital, Bank of Ghana Hospital, Regional hospitals, the Dodowa Hospital, numerous District hospitals and CHPS compounds therefore bringing healthcare to the doorsteps of many.”

Reiterating their achievements in improving upon Ghana’s infrastructure, Professor Naana Jane claimed the Mills\Mahama adminstration made ” the boldest infrastructure interventions from the Kotoka International Terminal 3, Kumasi, Tamale, Ho airports, Wa airstrip, Takoradi Port Expansion, Circle Interchange, Kasoa Interchange, and much road projects, the greatest capital investment as demonstrated in the Ghana Gas project.”

She also stated that the NDC was deliberate about building the local economy. This she buttressed with her actions while at the Ministry of Education including their decision “to support local industry” with the “textbook policy and insisted that all the E-Blocks will be constructed by local contractors.”
