Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, has apologised for the photograph he used showing sanding winning activities at Keta in the Volta Region.

“Please accept my heartfelt apologies for depending on this [image]…
I offer my unequivocal apologies. We legitimately relied on this image in an article; the source has now been removed, and I apologise; it was not intended to deceive; if it had been, we would not have turned up all of the records,” he said.

This comes after the Deputy Majority Leader displayed a photo of several heavy-duty trucks supposedly carrying sand off the coast of Keta in the Volta Region at a news briefing on the Keta tidal surges.

However, Nelson-Rockson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for the South Dayi seat, questioned Mr Afenyo-Markin, claiming that the image he depicted had nothing to do with Keta, which turned out to be correct.

Several digital news outlets and mainstream media outlets verify that the original photograph originated in Free Town, Sierra Leone.

In response, the politician stated that the image was not meant to deceive the public.
He added that the source he used for the photograph had taken the image down, therefore he apologised to the people of Keta and all Ghanaians who had the opportunity to see it.

Meanwhile, Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister of Works and Housing, has expressed grave concern about the politicisation of the issue of tidal waves and their devastating effects on the lives of the country’s coastal dwellers.

The Minister stated that the issue is a national one that should be free of any temptation by political observers, particularly politicians, to score cheap political points with such occurrences.

He went on to say that such narratives are not only dishonest but also do a disservice to the individuals who are affected.
