GNPC Buys $7.5 Million Dilapidated Building From A Company Once Chaired By Their Own CEO Without Following Procurement Laws

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has paid a whopping $7.5 Million for a dilapidated 6-storey building in Takoradi.

According the the Vice President in charge of Research at the IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Mr Bright Simons, the company which benefited from the sale of the structure was once chaired by the CEO of GNPC.

There was no tender and procurement processes were not followed before the state company acquired the structure in question. When asked why there was no tendering, the company said the building was real estate, and real estate is not mentioned in the procurement laws of Ghana, Bright Simons said.

A picture of the said building posted on twitter by Bright Simons showed an uncompleted storey-building with dilapidated walls. The structure was bought from Global Haulage in 2018.

It is not clear the what the intended purpose for the building is.
