It was said that the Ghana card identification number will replace the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) for tax identification purposes. This will track those who have to fulfill their core responsibility in a form of tax payment. This exercise is expected to increase the number of taxpayers from a little over 3 million Ghanaians to 15 million.

This changes as indicated in the press statement, is in line with government’s policy on the use of a unique identifier for all transactions where the identification of an individual is required.
