The minister for finance, Ken Ofori Atta has cautioned graduates to be wary of the unpleasant conditions outside of schools and begin to set up businesses.
The minister while addressing the 2021 graduands of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), admonished them to take their lives into their own hands and to be cognizant of the already messy situation out there in terms of employment.
He charged graduates not to sit down waiting to be offered white color jobs by the government after having acquired all the knowledge and skills within the four years of studies, but rather create their own.
The minister bemoaned that, the government is already overwhelmed with the number of people on the payroll “…most people look for a job from the government or state institutions, but that payroll is full. I can tell you that because we are spending about 60 percent of our revenue on remunerating some 650,000 people, and that is not sustainable” he said.
He further intimated that entrepreneurship, skill set, and credit are the things needed in the mix to ensure sustainability for the youth and offer them an opportunity to create their own path to wealth.
