Goalkeeper completes medical ahead of Chelsea transfer
Edouard Mendy was at Stamford Bridge on Monday to undergo a medical ahead of completing a transfer to Chelsea, with an announcement set to be made imminently.
According to Sky Sports Kaveh Solhekol (via the Express), the Rennes goalkeeper was at the Blues’ stadium to undergo a medical on Monday afternoon, with the 28-year-old also shown around his new home and allowed to take pictures.
Mendy could be in contention to make his debut for his new club as early as this Sunday, with defending Premier League champions Liverpool making the trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.
Petr Cech is believed to have played a major role in the signing of Mendy, with Chelsea’s sporting director recommending the signing of the Senegal international.
Kai Havertz’s poor debut poses question for Chelsea manager
Kai Havertz made his debut for Chelsea in Monday’s 3-1 away win over Brighton,, but the German’s performance gave Frank Lampard plenty to think about.
Deployed on the right side, Havertz struggled to influence the encounter as he might have hoped, with injuries to Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech meaning the German had to fill in to make the Blues’ system work.
Of course, Havertz needs time to settle into his new surroundings, but Lampard must figure out a way to draw the best out of him and to find a system that suits him.
