Akuffo-Addo Awards Olympic Medalist, Samuel Takyi $30,000 And A Car

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo has announced a cash reward of $30,000 and a car for the 2020 medalist in Tokyo, Samuel Takyi.

He made the remarks when Ghana’s contingent for the Tokyo Olympics called on him at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, 20th August 2021.

 Samuel Takyi will be given a cash prize of $10,000 plus a car and a further $20,000 to be put in a fund for his use in the future. In addition to this, each member of the 14 athlete contingent of Ghana will be handed $5000 in appreciation for their efforts at the Olympics.

The president in his remarks said, “For the first time ever, a Ghanaian athlete, Samuel Takyi, was selected to represent Africa at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games. For the first time in the history of the 4th Republic, Ghana won a medal at the Olympics.”

“Out of the 52 African countries that participated in the Olympics, Ghana placed 10th on the continent. This should spur us on to even greater heights in future competitions. On behalf of the people of Ghana, I say a big hearty ayekoo to all of you. You made the country proud,” he added.

All the officials and the athletes for the games were also given medals by the president for their effort in the games.
